Misty Meadows Farm is entering its 9th year of CSA for the upcoming growing season (2008). Below is just a brief overview of what a CSA is and what to expect.
Community Supported Agriculture is a system in which consumers receive food directly from the farmer who produces it. Unlike a farmers market system, supporters of community supported agriculture share in part of the farmer's risk . That is, they pay in advance for a portion of the farmer's crop. Crops that do well will be abundant in the share, crops that do less well will be less abundant.
Before the growing season begins, shareholders complete an application with us (the farmer) who agrees to grow crops for a predetermined fee and bring them to a designated location for distribution for approximately 22 weeks of the growing season . Shareholders also receive information on how to prepare and store their produce, as well as information about the farm and membership activities, such as scheduled farm visits, potlucks, etc.
